A New Stage of Waiting
So I haven't officially updated the blog but everyone and their mother and their mailman have been notified about OUR REFERRAL!!! We were referred our beautiful baby boy on May 23, 2008. Teshale is 11 MONTHS OLD TODAY, and will be a year old by the time we get to bring him home. I think about him constantly, wondering what he's doing, who's holding him, if he's learning new skills. We got the development checklist, which tells us that he can sit well (obvious from his pictures), crawl, pull to stand, plays with toys, and will try to trade a toy for food (smart boy, he'll have something to teach Mason who always gets it the other way around!). He can't walk yet, although he may have learned today for all we know. Selfishly I am hoping that he doesn't learn anything new before we go to get him. Am I a terrible mommy or what?!? But I'd love to see those first precious bumbling steps :)
How do you pronounce his name? Ta-SHAL-ee. 3 consonants. We'll call him that at first, may switch to Jeremiah later.
So what's next?
We're waiting to be assigned a court date, which is the date our case is heard in court and Teshale officially becomes ours by law (at that point we'll be allowed to post pics on public sites like this blog). It's nice because that way we don't have to appear before a judge while we're in Ethiopia-- he'll lawfully be our baby by the time we step off the plane.
Travel dates are usually about a month after the court date. So we'll most likely be traveling in late July or early August.
We'll be in Ethiopia for 7 days, plus the two-plus days of travel, so we'll be gone about 10 days. Mason will stay with the grandparents.
Mason talks about Teshale a lot too, and seems obsessed with the idea of babies... he wants to be a baby quite often, which usually means he play-whines. Interesting that that's starting already. But whenever we see an airplane he'll say it's "going to Ah-ca-ca to get baby brudder". So in general he understands. Does he get that his whole world's about to be turned upside down? Probably not :)
HOUSE UPDATE:
When God decides to bless, he BLESSES. We had prayed both for the sale of our house and our referral for 7 months, and both happened within a week of each other. So we have a contract on our house, just going through the final inspection/financing phase. We're supposed to close on June 27th.
We have a contract out on another house in a great neighborhood, one of those spoiled ones where they mow your lawn and all that!!! It's a short-sale, so we're waiting on the bank to approve it.
So aside from lots of small details, it looks like we are going to be able to move and get settled in before Teshale comes home, which is amazing, a miracle in this market for us to have sold our home and found something we like and all that.
We are so thankful and really do just feel showered with blessings. God is so amazing.
