Monday in Ethiopia
We got some good quality time with Teshale today.
We left for the care center to get him at about 9 am; the nannies were changing them and getting them ready for us when we got there, and they got Teshale all dressed up in three layers and a hat, which was so cute, even thought by the time we had gotten very far on the bus he had sweat dripping down his poor little hot neck. He's still a little sick, feels a little hot but no fever, and coughing a little bit, but really nothing too terrible. Anyways, by the time we got back here to the guest house and changed his diaper he was ready for lunch. They feed the babies with cups at the center, so we were a little concerned about how well he would take to the bottle, but he sucked it down in no time flat and promptly fell fast asleep on my chest. He slept for a solid hour that way, so sweet, and then laid on Joe's chest for a while after he woke up, probably trying to figure out again where in the heck he was.
So we both got some really good bonding time with him today, which was so nice. Everyone seems to be doing really well with their kids, no major freak-outs yet (from parents or kids!). The hardest part of the day was that we had to take him back after lunch and drop him off again. Only one more night. And I have to keep telling myself that this is really the best way for transfer of attachment and bonding to occur, but it is hard! We are all so ready to just take our kids fulltime. But soon enough--- tomorrow is Embassy day and the farewell ceremony at the care center, so as of lunch time he'll be with us forever. I wish they would just let us leave then... we are ready to come home and start our family life, and I really miss my biggest little man.
We got to go to the Ethiopian museum today, which none of us actually wanted to do, but turned out to be awesome. It was really neat to see artifacts from the history of a nation from the first and second centuries B.C.... so different than our infant nation. Very awe-inspiring. Joe really liked all the old war stuff, like big long knives :) I'm sure Teshale will think that's cool one day, too, so we got plenty of pictures.
We just finished watching "The Office". Who knew we'd get to reunite with Michael Scott in Ethiopia?
