From Acts

Acts 20:35
In everything I did, I showed you that by this kind of hard work we must help the weak, remembering the words the Lord Jesus himself said: "It is more blessed to give than receive".

...We must work hard because we have been given the opportunity and the ability to do so; with the fruits of our labors we are to help the weak. This goes against our knee-jerk reactions... MY money, MY time, MY talent, MY savings, MY comfort... we work for ourselves, keep ourselves isolated so that we can keep what we have. To me, this brings to mind the struggles in Washington right now to provide jobs, health care, and education. Our public programs are floundering, and we want to see change, but at the thought of more taxes, or any other sacrifice on our part, we close our fists, jerk our wallets back out of sight... nope, not MY money. You...you there, make some changes, but don't expect anything out of me.
