I'm not ugly (subtitled: Mason scores major points)
Mason, my sensitive thinker, has always been very bothered by the fact that Leah in the Bible is often described as ugly. (In one translation she also has tender eyes... I feel her pain.) Today he was reading that story in the backseat and asked, "Mommy, was Leah really ugly?"
So we talked about how God made Leah and so of course He at least thought she was beautiful, and how Jacob was probably just so in love with Rachel that anyone else just looked ugly in comparison.... That was a little too abstract for him....
At that point Levi chimed in with, "Leah's ugly.... Mommy, you are----" and Mason stage whispered "DO NOT SAY MOMMY IS UGLY, LEVI!"
Ha. Smart kid.
So I reminded them that God was tender towards Leah, and saw that she was sad because Jacob loved Rachel more, so God blessed Leah with lots of sons.
"Mommy, you're just like Leah in the Bible! You have lots of sons, too!... But you're not ugly, Mommy."
