2015 milestones

People who have been compared to Dory probably need to record milestones for posterity before they are reduced to making up milestones later when their children ask (right now I don't remember Mason's first word but I could go look it up!)...
So for my own benefit, here's where we've been lately...

Levi turned 8 and Micah turned 5 in July. Mason officially turned 9 1/2 :) Tesfa is 2.
For Levi's birthday we took his friend Eli to Steak n Shake and a movie, which was fun and low-key and about all we could handle 2 weeks after returning from Ethiopia.
For Micah's birthday we went go-carting and to the Science Center as a family. Thankfully Micah especially is just fine with low-key family celebrations!

Mason continues to play the violin, does not love to practice, but loves fiddling especially and, lately, the Can-Can :) Anything fast, actually. He's been on a great streak with his violin as far as enjoying it and not complaining too much but lately has also really enjoyed his piano playing. Minuet and Trio, of all songs. Which just goes to show, you never know. He's playing his third season of soccer and finally gaining in confidence; his current favorite position is mid-field. He loves creating anything and is hilarious. So he is happiest when creating something funny, like making up a rap or a crazy sculpture. He still loves finding old electronics to take apart and uses the pieces for sculptures. He is a great reader and consumes books as quickly as I ever did. He likes rollerblading and now skateboarding. He loves mountain biking, hiking, and camping with Joe.

Levi is my social butterfly. He can pretty much make friends with a wall and always finds something to enjoy when there are other kids around. He is all boy and is happiest with a friend who loves to tackle and wrestle as much as he does. He is becoming quite the soccer star; we never see him as focused as he is when he gets the soccer ball going down the field. Yesterday he helped his team win, scoring 3 goals! He also loves playing the piano but wants to add other instruments to his repertoire; depending on the week its usually trumpet, tuba, saxophone, and/or banjo. He is very nearly obsessed with audiobooks and will happily listen to any book on his MP3 player; he just finished Treasure Island and we had a few too many references to rum for my taste :) He and Micah fight the worst but also sometimes play the best. They both still love to play with action figures or hide and seek neighborhood games.

Micah is still my little man, determined and sensitive, tough and quiet. He enjoys homeschool the most of anybody and takes a while to make friends. He is an observer. He gets things done and creates goals and charts for himself already! He is learning to read and most things at school come pretty easily for him. He isn't playing soccer or music yet but I know after these years of observing that when he starts he'll do well. He loves to draw and still loves puzzles, games, and card games. He can do some tricks on his scooter and wants to try the skateboard soon.

Tess can smile, run, climb, jump, dance, laugh, spin, and talk. Usually all within the same 5 minutes. She is nearly always happy and is very inquisitive. She gets into everything, more than any other boy ever did, but she also has more to get into and a more distracted mama! She loves to play kitchen or go outside to ride her tricycle. She won't sit still in your lap for long unless we are in a new place, but she does love for someone to read her board books to her. She is starting to memorize Brown Bear Brown Bear What Do You See. She sings and hums often. She is rarely quiet in the car, so we'll see how our fall trip to the mountains goes!

Joe just got back from a 6 day trip to Indianapolis and Pittsburgh. He is still a head lighter on Madden Football and the boys are super proud that he has such a cool job. I'm thankful that his job provides for our family so that we have everything we need and I can stay home with his crazy tribe we are raising. He is also usually home for breakfast and dinner so I love that, too. He is in his second year of teaching art lessons to 6 boys (ours and 3 friends). He and Mason pulled back from Cub Scouts this year to simplify but we are still hoping to fit in some outdoor stuff this fall and winter.

I am a homeschool teacher to 3 and mother of a newly adopted toddler. Sometimes I still get to see my friends and I love to go to the Y and exercise. I'm looking forward to more family bike rides in the cool weather. I am always reading at least a few books-- right now, Overcoming Dyslexia, Daring Greatly by Brene Brown, and Harper Lee's Go Set a Watchman :)
