Malawi News

We have fallen in love with Africa!!! It was an amazing trip, and although at times it was emotionally difficult, we really enjoyed our time in Malawi. The Malawian people we met will forever be etched on our hearts and we ask that you join us in prayer for them. Some of the most troubling things we saw were the effects of preventable disease, starvation, and lack of education. We were excited to see that Children of the Nations is quickly becoming a source of hope in some of the villages, and that their goal of empowering Malawian nationals to head up efforts for lasting change seems to be effective.

We made a video slideshow that will take you through our days in Malawi and show you exactly what we did and who we worked with. If you’d like us to send you a higher quality copy on CD just let us know and we’d be happy to share!

Before we left, we sponsored two children, Rhoda and Chipi, ages 10 and 9, who are brother and sister. Their parents are both deceased and they live with their maternal grandmother, Elena. After seeing the COTN programs in action, we are so excited that our sponsorship allows them to be part of COTN’s feeding and education programs, and frees them from thoughts of finding food every day so that they can finish school. On a separate note, many have asked about our adoption plans. We are getting further and further in the process—as I write we’ve been put on the waiting list to be matched with a child. The average wait time to be matched right now is 5-7 months; once we receive our referral, it’ll be about 2 more months before we can travel to Ethiopia to pick up our baby. So please pray for that process to go smoothly, and we’ll ask for your prayers again in early 2008 when we actually travel back to Africa. Mason will again stay with the grandparents. He did wonderfully while we were in Malawi so we expect only good things again in ’08, unless he gets jealous that we’re bringing home a brother or sister this time!

Thank you again, we love you all!
