New Years' Goals and some good news...

We taught the boys about making New Year's goals and resolutions tonight. Mason had to be coaxed a bit... he decided after running in two 5Ks this year that he'd try to do 2 more again this year.  We're trying to convince him to aim to beat his time from this year but he's reluctant to claim that goal ;)

Levi and Micah had very definite goals.
Levi: "I want to stop slavery and be the letter-writer for the President."
Us: "Awesome, Levi. Good goals for a 6-year-old. Any health and fitness goals?"
Levi: "I want to do the big boys race at the 5K, then I want to do the Candy Cane 5K, then I want to do the Rat Race. Mom, what is the Rat Race?"

giggling...
Us: "Micah, what do you want to do this year?"
Micah: "I want to get a sticker!"
Big time goals.

We are more than ready for 2014. It's been a hard ending to 2013. 4 deaths in 4 months... Cassie's miscarriage, Aunt Kitty, Isaac, and Arlene. We've all been feeling a bit tired and raw. We are all ready for some good news.

So here's our bit of good news...
We are adopting a baby girl! Late last March we decided that we were ready to adopt again, and after working for a few months on collecting all the necessary initial paperwork, we'd been waiting to be matched with a baby girl.
In December we were matched with a sweet, beautiful little 8-month-old. We are not allowed to publicly post identifying photos or information until the adoption is finalized, so here is a little glimpse...

Perfect, right? I know :)
In the midst of a dark time God has brought us a little hope. If you pray please pray that she would be able to come home as soon as possible and that she would stay healthy and feel safe and loved where she is now. The timelines have slowed down since the last time we adopted; it is an average wait time of about 10 months after referral right now before babies are coming home to their families. That seems like a long time right now. But we know that God is in charge of it all so we trust that it will happen in His timing. We also pray for our own peace and patience ;)

Wonderful idea to teach your sons about New Year's resolutions. And happy news about adding a daughter to the family. Love from Kenya.
